Halsdorf is a municipality in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Bitburger Land .
geography
The place is in the south west Eifel on the plateau between Enz and Prüm . The district town of Bitburg is about 10 km east of the municipality, the state border with Luxembourg about 10 km west. The municipal area covers an area of 3.21 km², 91% of which is an extremely high proportion used for agriculture, while only 1% is forest. Several wind farms that have been created in recent years are distributed over the ridges of the district .
The Burengracht, Moorhof and Schrödersgraben residential areas also belong to Halsdorf .
history
Like most of the localities in the area, Halsdorf was created during the time of the conquest in the 8th century. The ending of the place name “-dorf” suggests this. The village first appears in a document in 1501 as "Haltzdorf". During the French occupation at the beginning of the 19th century, the place that had previously belonged to the Viandener Meierei Mettendorf became Mairie Baustert . The latter was incorporated into the mayor's office of the same name in 1816 , whose headquarters were relocated to Oberweis in 1871. At that time the municipality of Halsdorf had 106 inhabitants.
While the village consisted of four households in 1615, in 1700 it already comprised six houses. From 64 inhabitants in 1803, the population increased to 133 by 1962 and finally, after several fluctuations, reached the current level of 106 inhabitants (2019).

coat of arms
Blazon : “Under a red shield head divided by two silver lilies in blue, a ploughshare on a silver background; another lily in silver in a red shield base. " | |
Justification for the coat of arms: The red coat of arms with a silver bar stands for the original affiliation to the County of Vianden . As an attribute of the patron saint of the church, St. Francis Xaverius, the lily is included three times in the coat of arms, while the ancient blue ploughshare indicates the importance of agriculture. |
Attractions
Several old farms have been preserved in good condition within the town center . Some of the crossroads in the municipality are also worth seeing . The townscape is also characterized by the Catholic branch church of St. Ignatius and Franz Xaver from 1726, next to which there is a war memorial . The village square is lined with a fountain and is located directly at the through-town of the Olsdorf – Bettingen – Enzen district road.
