Biersdorf am See is a local community and state-approved resort on the Bitburg reservoir in the Eifel and is located in the Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Bitburger Land .

Geographical location

The place is located in the South Eifel nature park , northwest of the district town of Bitburg on the Bitburg reservoir, which is located in the west of the municipality. The 3.22 km² large municipal area extends at an altitude of 280 to 340  m above sea level. NHN . 61.3% of it is used for agriculture, with 12.7% a comparatively small part of forest. The residential areas Auf dem Erzberg and Hof Merkes also belong to Biersdorf am See .

history

Like much of the Bitburger Land , Biersdorf am See was already settled in pre-Christian times, as indicated by barrows and ceramic finds. The first documentary mention as "Bersdorf" comes from the year 1301. A parish church can be found as early as 1330 . Around 1500 six households were counted. As a separate subordinate rule with Wiersdorf it was in the Luxembourg provost of Bitburg , which was sold to the barons of the Horst in 1672. In 1800 Biersdorf became the seat of a French mairie , which was replaced by a Prussian mayor's office in 1816 . At that time, the place comprised 18 houses and 142 residents. The Biersdorf mayor's office passed into the mayor's office of Bickendorf in 1856 .

Since 1970, the municipality has belonged to the Bitburg-Land Verbandsgemeinde , which was merged into the Bitburger Land Association on July 1, 2014 . The community has had the addition of "am See" to its name since March 6, 1995.

Economy and Infrastructure

Biersdorf am See is today an agricultural and tourist community. There are several hotels, guest houses and inns, mainly due to the location on the Bitburg reservoir. In addition, a large part of the municipal area is used by five full-time and four part-time farmers.

The next motorway junction is Bitburg on the A 60 and is around 4 km away.
