geography

The village is located in the South West Eifel , about ten kilometers northwest of Bitburg on the plateau between Echtershausen and Mülbach . Of the rather small municipality area of ​​3.8 km², 58% are used for agriculture, 35% are forest. The village is surrounded by orchards and is located at an altitude of 370  m above sea level. NHN . The Neumühle , which is about two kilometers outside of the village on Echtersbach , also belongs to the community of Feilsdorf .

The next motorway junction is Bitburg on the A 60 and is about 10 km east of the municipality. Bundesstraße 50 runs three kilometers south of Feilsdorf .

history

The first documentary mention of the place as “Falstorf” or “Fulstorf” took place in 1473. The current place name suffix “-dorf” in all probability dates from the time of the conquest in the 8th century. In the past, Feilsdorf belonged within the Duchy of Luxembourg partly to the rule of Neuerburg and partly to the rule of Bettingen , within which he came to the parish of Baustert at the latest in 1570. In 1848 there were 54 residents in four houses. In 1895 the population was already 81, and residential buildings doubled. The municipality belonged to the Oberweis office until 1970 , when this was merged with other offices as part of the Rhineland-Palatinate municipal reform to form the Bitburg-Land association .
