Schleid is a municipality in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Bitburger Land .
geography
The community is located in the South West Eifel , approx. 14 km northwest of the district town of Bitburg . The federal motorway 60 runs immediately to the west of the village , at which the next junction Bitburg is about 5 km away. Of the 6.24 km² municipal area, 51% are used for agriculture, 37% are forest (as of 2017). To the northwest of the village is the Hardberg with a height of 495.4 m above sea level. NHN .
Schleid also includes the Behfels, Burg, Hof Bennes, Hof Wilhelmshöhe, Mittelwies and Pintenhof residential areas .
history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 893 in the Prümer Urbar as "Vuerscleite". The abbey had nine manses (courtyards) there at the time .
Schleid belonged to the late 18th century country wonderfully for electorate Trier , but was under two different administrations and jurisdictions . The south-western part belonged to the Kyllburg Office , the northeast part to the Prüm Office (originally the Principality of Prüm ).
After the Left Bank of the Rhine was taken by French revolutionary troops (1794), Schleid belonged to the Canton of Kyllburg in the Saar Department from 1798 to 1814 . Due to the agreements made at the Congress of Vienna , the region was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815. Under the Prussian administration, Schleid was subordinated to the Seffern mayor in the newly established Bitburg district in the Trier administrative district in 1816 . In 1856 the municipality Schleid came administratively to the mayor's office Bickendorf , which was renamed to Amt Bickendorf in 1927. Schleid has been a member of the Bitburg-Land community since 1970 and of the Bitburger Land community from July 1, 2014 .

Municipal council
The municipal council in Schleid consists of eight council members, who were elected in a personalized proportional representation in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman. The eight seats in the municipal council are divided between two groups of voters .
coat of arms
The Schleidter Bach used to divide the place up between the manors of the Imperial Abbey of Prüm and the Electorate of Trier . This fact is symbolized for the stream by the silver wave pole and for the division in two by the two curves. Red and silver are the colors of the Prüm Abbey.
Attractions
The St. Barbara branch church was built in 1840 and expanded between 1880 and 1890. The castle chapel from 1909 and the Celtic fortress surrounded by moats are also worth seeing .
