Niederkail is a village in the Eifel in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich in Rhineland-Palatinate with about 680 inhabitants. Since 1975 it belongs as a district to the local community Landscheid .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1211. The nobleman “Godefried von der Keyle” is said to have lived here as early as 1070 and owned two water mills .

Personalities

  • Peter Zirbes , (born January 10, 1825 in Niederkail; † November 14, 1901), was a traveling "singer" (poet) from Niederkail. There is a street in the village that was named after him. His house still exists and is a sightseeing destination for tourists.
