Gornhausen is a municipality in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Bernkastel-Kues .

Gornhausen lies at the foot of the Haardtkopf ( 658 m ) in the Hunsrück . 63.2 percent of the district area is forested. The closest middle center is Bernkastel-Kues ; the closest regional center is Trier . Neighboring communities include Veldenz , Burgen , Morbach -Elzerath and Brauneberg -Hirzlei.

The annual precipitation is 869 mm. The precipitation is in the upper third of the values recorded in Germany. history

Until the end of the 18th century, Gornhausen belonged to the county of Veldenz, along with the main town of Veldenz and the towns of Andel , Burgen , Dusemond and Mülheim . In the so-called French era , the place belonged to the canton Bernkastel in the Saardepartement from 1798 to 1814 , in 1815 it was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna .

Since 1946 the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate .
