The Haardtkopf is located in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich in Rhineland-Palatinate . Nearby places are Gornhausen , about one kilometer northwest, and Elzerath in the municipality of Morbach , about one kilometer southeast of the summit.
Geologically it is the Haardtkopf a Härtling from quartzite rock . The summit area is completely covered with forest, mainly coniferous forest. A view over the Hunsrück is therefore not possible. The summit is easily accessible via several forest roads.
