Elzerath

Elzerath is a district in the northern part of the community -free municipality of Morbach in the Hunsrück in Rhineland-Palatinate . It has about 110 inhabitants (2019).

geography

Elzerath is located northwest of Heinzerath at the foot of the Haardtkopf with the Haardtkopf transmitter and south of Gornhausen and Gonzerath .

The Elzerather Bach flows into the Heinzer Bach, which later flows into the Dhron .

history

In 1277 the place was first mentioned in a document by the bailiffs of Hunolstein .

politics

Mayor is Winfried Lünemann (2019).

In the town's coat of arms there are two silver, crossed lifting hooks and a golden Aesculapian staff with a silver snake on a red background. The hooks indicate the name, specifically the final syllable of the place name. In the past the place was also called Enzeroth or Elzeroit. The Aesculapian staff with snake is a classic attribute of the local patrons St. Cosmas and Damianus .

Today's village chapel in the center of the village is from 1954.

Infrastructure and traffic

There is a parish hall at the entrance to the village.

The closest federal highways are the B 269 and the B 327 ( Hunsrückhöhenstraße ).
