Ota Janeček

Ota Janeček (born August 15, 1919 in Pardubice , † July 1, 1996 in Prague ) was a Czech illustrator, painter, graphic artist and manufacturer of ceramic art products.

Life

Ota Janeček studied drawing from 1941 to 1942 and was a member of the Mánes Association of Fine Artists from 1943 and of the Hollar Association of Bohemian Graphic Artists from 1945 .

Works

Janeček was a versatile visual artist who inscribed himself primarily in modern Czech post-war painting. In addition, he created sculptures and graphics. His inspiration was a deep love for nature.

His first attempts were expressive. In some pictures he is inspired by Amedeo Modigliani . Cubism began to appear in 1943 . He continues to paint in this style, albeit partially transformed. Elements of folk painting have been added around 1948. The first attempts at highly decorative realism since the early 1950s .

He was particularly successful as an illustrator of children's books, among others by Jan Skácel and František Halas .

He also designed film costumes, where he was a specialist advisor and co-author of the film Wolfsgrube (Vlčí jáma), which was awarded in Venice in 1958 .

Awards

  • 1963: First prize for children's illustration in São Paulo
  • 1970: Silver eagle at the International Book Fair in Nice .
  • 1985: Appointment as Honored Artist of Czechoslovakia.
