Location of Weiperath in Rhineland-Palatinate

Weiperath is a district and a district of the association-free municipality Morbach in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich in Rhineland-Palatinate . The place is in the Hunsrück . Weiperath was an independent municipality until the end of 1974 .

history

The history of Weiperath can be traced back to the Romans . But it was not until around 900 years ago that the name of the village was recorded in some documents as a medieval settlement. Due to the ending "- rath ", Weiperath probably originated in the Franconian clearing and settlement phase. The place name developed over the years from Wipenrot via Wippenrait , Weiberrath and Weypperath to today's Weiperath.

For a long time the village belonged to the bailiffs of Hunolstein and later to the Hunolstein office. In 1651 Weiperath consisted of twelve houses, and in 1624 the twelve houses were recorded on a tax list. Thus about sixty people lived in the small village at that time. But as early as 1781 the population was 131, that is, it doubled within a century and a half. This happened again until the middle of the 19th century, because in 1843 there were 262, in 1856 even 301 inhabitants . Since then, the population has fluctuated between 300 and 350.

On December 31, 1974, the previously independent place Weiperath was incorporated into the community of Morbach.
