The Haardtkopf transmitter is a 136-meter-high freestanding transmission tower of the Südwestrundfunk in a steel framework construction for VHF radio and DAB .
history
Old transmission mast
The first transmission mast was erected in 1952 on the Haardtkopf of the same name near Gornhausen in the Bernkastel-Wittlich district . It was a guyed steel frame construction. A special feature of this transmission mast was that the top of the glass fiber cylinder with the UHF antennas was guyed to the top antenna platform and the mast had a triangular cross-section. In the summer of 2019, the separately guyed top mast with fiberglass cylinder was dismantled, thus reducing the total height of the structure to around 150 m. Due to the DVB-T switch-off, the top mast was no longer required.
New transmission tower
A new, approximately 136 m high steel lattice mast was erected between 2018 and 2019. This replaced the old guyed transmission mast. It is a free-standing steel lattice tower. A platform for mounting UHF antennas for DVB-T2 broadcast is no longer provided.
More transmission towers
In addition to the two masts of the Südwestrundfunk, there is another 74 m high steel lattice mast on the site. This is operated by the German radio tower and houses mobile radio, directional radio and BOS radio .
