Frequencies of the terrestrial television channels

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The table of the frequencies of the terrestrial television channels indicates the channels used in terrestrial radio operation; the entire frequency band (including all special channels and hyperband ) can be found under cable television .

The use of channels 4 to 6 in Asia is covered by footnotes 5.176 and 5.183 to the World Radio Agreement.

Channel 1 was theoretically defined, but never used. TV receivers therefore usually start with channel 2.

Outside this grid, there was also the relocated channel 2A, which was used in Austria by the ORF in St. Pölten, the Jauerling transmitter to broadcast the TV program ORF 1 . It was 1.5 MHz above the frequency of channel 2 and had an image frequency of 49.75 MHz and a sound frequency of 55.25 MHz. In the course of the analogue switch-off and the final switch to DVB-T , this channel was switched off on October 22, 2007.

Channel 12 is reserved for military purposes in NATO countries and may therefore only be used for broadcasting at low power. Today the channel, although defined for DVB-T, is mostly not used because digital audio broadcasting takes place there.

Outside the DA-CH area, NICAM is also used.

Channel H2 is theoretically defined for DVB-T, but was not used because digital audio broadcasting takes place there.

In June 2009 Italy had to switch to the channel grid that is valid in the rest of Western Europe.

Channel C was also used in Albania.

Channels 1 to 3 overlap with the West European VHF band, which is why a separate VHF band is still in use. On March 31, 2012, Japan switched off its analog television; the digital successor standard ISDB-T only uses UHF frequencies.

Channel 1 is now (as in the rest of the world) used for VHF broadcasting, specifically for replacement channels for medium wave transmitters. Channels 2, 3, and 10 to 12 are now used for digital broadcasting. Channels 4 to 9 are now used for digital BOS radio.

People's Republic of China

The People's Republic of China has a channel grid on VHF that differs from all other Eastern Bloc countries:

Channel 37 is largely reserved for radio astronomy in America.

Channels 70 to 83 were made available for AMPS in 1983 and are therefore neither defined for two-tone (in South Korea) nor for digital broadcasting.

Europe ; People's Republic of China , Hong Kong and South Africa

In ITU regions 1 and 3 (except Australia and the NTSC countries), as well as in the French overseas territories in region 2, an 8 MHz channel spacing is used on UHF:

Channel 36 was reserved for flight navigation systems until the 1980s and was only then released for broadcasting. For this reason, this channel was often used by video recorders to transmit images to the television before connection systems such as SCART became popular.

Channel 38 is reserved for radio telescopes and therefore cannot be used for broadcast applications.

The channels from channel 61 were originally reserved for military purposes in Germany and therefore, unlike in numerous neighboring countries such as Austria and Switzerland, could not be released for broadcasting. With the introduction of DVB-T, some channels from this area (channels 64, 65 and 66) were released for broadcasting, but withdrawn from broadcasting only a little later as part of the Digital Dividend I.

Channels 70 to 81 were originally defined, but have been cleared for mobile communications and are therefore not defined for digital broadcasting.

The frequency for DVB-T results from the channel number multiplied by 8 MHz plus 306 MHz . DVB-T channel 61 and above have been cleared for Long Term Evolution in some countries (including Germany) .

In Germany , all frequency bands above 700 MHz and thus all TV channels above channel 49 should be released by mid-2019 as part of the Digital Dividend II .

The AFN used some channels in NTSC-M for the broadcast of the television program AFN | prime Atlantic ; As with all other European UHF television stations, their video carrier frequencies are in an 8 MHz grid. In Italy channels 43, 60 and 68 were used for this.

Australia

Australia is the only country in the world that also uses a 7 MHz channel grid on UHF:

Channels 52 to 69 were cleared as part of the digital dividend.
