Adlerturm Dortmund
The Adlerturm is a reconstructed tower of the medieval city wall in Dortmund , which was built in 1992 over the original foundations of the former defensive tower . The 30-meter-high tower was placed on pillars in order not to impair the existing structure of the foundations of the original 14th century eagle tower and the adjoining city wall from the 13th century.
The tower houses a children's museum on the medieval history of the city on six floors. Numerous hands-on stations allow children and adults to relive the medieval way of life. Trying on armor, touching swords, excavating, dressing up, smelling and hearing the Middle Ages, calligraphy and reenacting the Dortmund feud of 1388 on a huge city map with Playmobil figures are among the highlights. You can see excavation finds from the Kuckelketor , Hell Tower and the Eagle Tower itself.
A model of the medieval city and contemporary representations illustrate the appearance of Dortmund over the past centuries. Weapons and objects from the time of the Great Dortmund Feud can also be seen. The concept for the children's museum came from the archaeologists Georg Eggenstein and Heiner Deutmann. The museum was designed by the museum designer Michael Wienand and his team.
