Special channel

A special channel is an additional channel in the frequency range for the transmission of cable television programs in the cable network compared to terrestrial television via antenna . Special channels are used for both analog and digital television . Special channels cannot be used via antenna because the corresponding frequencies are reserved for purposes other than television programs.

A distinction is made between the following channel areas:

USB

Lower special channel range (midband): channels S1 to S10 in the VHF. Embedded between Band II and Band III with an available bandwidth of 7 MHz per channel

  • VHF Band II : 87.5-104 (108) MHz
  • S1 : 104–111 MHz (discontinuation with expansion of the VHF band to 108 MHz)
  • S2 : 111–118 MHz (used until January 1999 for DSR )
  • S3 : 118-125 MHz (used until January 1999 for DSR )
  • ...
  • S10 : 167-174 MHz
  • CCIR channel 5 : 174–181 MHz (band III)

OSB

Upper special channel area (superband): channels S11 to S20 in the VHF. Embedded between band III and 300 MHz border between VHF and UHF with available bandwidth 7 MHz per channel

  • CCIR channel 12 : 223-230 MHz (band III)
  • S11 : 230-237 MHz
  • ...
