Frequencies and Programs

Analog radio (FM)

In addition to the north-eastern part of Rhineland-Palatinate, the station also supplies neighboring areas in North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse with the broadcast programs. Starting in the north-west in a clockwise direction, there is reception from Cologne to almost Dortmund, parts of the Sauerland, the Siegerland, Upper Hesse, Marburg, Gießen via the Wetterau to the Taunus ridge, where other Rhineland-Palatinate transmitters (Koblenz, Linz, Hardtkopf) then come in more strongly.

Digital radio ( DAB + )

Digital radio in the DAB + standard has been broadcast since December 15, 2016. The distribution of the nationwide multiplex takes place in a vertical polarization in single-frequency network ( Single Frequency Network ) with other stations.

Südwestrundfunk (SWR) has also been broadcasting its programs via DAB + with 7 kilowatts (kW) from the Bad Marienberg station since April 20, 2017. The activation was necessary so that the listeners in the north of Rhineland-Palatinate, in particular the Westerwald and the Rhineland-Palatinate Hintertaunus, were better supplied with the digital radio. In addition, the large city of Siegen , which is already in North Rhine-Westphalia, also benefits in part from the additional SWR Mux that can be received. Rockland Radio as well as the youth stations big.fm and DASDING are not at all or only very weakly broadcast via FM from Bad Marienberg and are now for the first time much better receivable in the regions listed above via DAB +. However, a DAB + transmitter does not have as long a range as a comparable FM transmitter. Therefore (as of the end of 2018) further DAB + filling stations from Südwestrundfunk are necessary. Because while the Bad Marienberg transmitter still reaches the Wildenburger Land in the far north of Rhineland-Palatinate, around the municipality of Friesenhagen, the DAB + indoor reception often fails, especially in the valleys of the low mountain range. Since, in addition to the Wissertal, the Siegtal with the cities of Betzdorf, Kirchen and Wissen is also affected by DAB + reception gaps, the SWR announced on request that another DAB + transmitter is planned for 2020 in the Mudersbach area, which will also optimally reach Siegen can.

Digital television ( DVB-T )

Since August 26, 2008, the Bad Marienberg broadcaster has been broadcasting digital antenna television ( DVB-T ) with three public multiplex channels for the Westerwald region . The horizontal polarization was retained, antennas did not have to be rotated. The digital broadcasts ran in single-frequency operation with other broadcasting locations. The broadcast of DVB-T ended on November 8, 2017. A switch to DVB-T2 is not planned. The region is now only partially supplied with DVB-T2 by the broadcasters Koblenz and Siegen.
