history

View from the television tower over the Großer Dreesch to the Schweriner See (1985)

Even before the Großer Dreesch prefabricated building area was built in 1971 , the construction of a radio transmitter began in 1957 in the former forest area of the Zippendorf district . The purpose of this facility and other broadcast towers in the GDR that were built during this period was to set up a radio relay network and broadcast the second television program on GDR television. In addition to the television tower, which was opened in 1964 and planned by Günther Kollmann (VEB IPRO Berlin), the 273-meter-high transmission mast, over which German television and VHF programs were broadcast as early as 1957 , the technology and the administration buildings were built. The viewing platform and the tower café had been open to the public since July 1, 1964. The transmission technology was housed on the floors below the café.

In 1971 the steel lattice mast at the top of the tower was replaced by a cylinder made of glass fiber polyester (GFP). After the fall of the Wall , radio operations were transferred from the GDR's Deutsche Post to the Deutsche Bundespost . At this time, extensive renovation and renovation work on the building and the technology was necessary, which had priority over the gastronomic use, which is why the tower café was closed from 1991 to November 28, 1999.

Today's radio operator is the Telekom subsidiary Deutsche Funkturm GmbH.

On November 25, 2017, the Turm-Café was closed for economic reasons. The tower has not been open to the public since then.

Structure and technical data

The in Gleitschalverfahren built Schwerin TV Tower is in contrast to most other TV towers not circular, but a cross-section in the shape of a Reuleaux triangle . His tower cage , in which the restaurant is located, among other things, is not circular, but takes on the shape of the shaft. The tower is made of reinforced concrete, the 32 meter antenna mast is made of fiberglass-reinforced polyester. The pulpit is clad with aluminum. The foundation is 71.5 meters above sea level and has a diameter of 12.6 meters down to a depth of 1.6 meters, a diameter of 26 meters up to a depth of 4.9 meters and a diameter of up to six meters below ground Diameter of 12.6 meters.

There are six technical floors on the tower at a height of 75 to 93.75 meters and five antenna platforms at 60, 78.5, 82.5, 90 and 93.75 meters. The viewing gallery is 97.5 meters, the café 100.8 meters and the engine rooms 104.5 meters above the ground. The wall thickness of the shaft is 33 centimeters up to a height of 20 meters and 23 centimeters up to 106.7 meters, the shaft diameter is 12.6 meters.

In addition to using the microwave also make use of radio amateurs the tower for an ATV - relay station in the 23-centimeter band and an FM relay in 70-centimeter band .

Transmitter Schwerin-Zippendorf

In the immediate vicinity of the television tower is a second Media Broadcast antenna carrier , a 273 meter high, guyed and grounded transmission mast ( 53 ° 35 ′ 31 ″  N , 11 ° 27 ′ 19.8 ″  E ). DAB + as well as VHF radio and DVB-T2 HD television programs are currently only broadcast from this mast . This is also known as the Schwerin-Zippendorf transmitter.
