The Bremen telecommunications tower (official name of the Bremer Fernsehturm ; internal: radio transmission center Bremen 38 ) is, like the Münster telecommunications tower and the Friedrich-Clemens-Gerke-Turm in Cuxhaven, a replica of the Kiel telecommunications tower (design: architects Gerhard Kreisel and Günter H. Müller, Kiel). It is 235.70 meters high. The diameter of the operating pulpit, which is 108.20 meters high, is 40 meters.
The telecommunications tower is in the Walle district of Bremen on Utbremer Strasse , around 2.5 kilometers northwest of the city center. It was erected from the 32nd calendar week 1982 as the successor to the tower in the nearby Faulenquartier in the city center ; it was completed in 1986. It is not open to the public.
All of Radio Bremen's VHF radio and TV programs in Bremen are broadcast from this tower today. In addition, there is the 70 centimeter amateur radio relay DB0OZ with the analog output frequency 438.825 MHz and the digital (DMRplus) output frequency 438.325 MHz on the tower .
The operator and owner of the system is Deutsche Funkturm (DFMG), a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom based in Münster . Around the year 2000, consideration was given to setting up a restaurant in the company pulpit. However, these plans were rejected again.
Previous structures
Today's telecommunications tower has at least three predecessor structures:
- a 90 meter high wooden tower with a long wire antenna for medium wave broadcasting suspended in the tower structure; the tower was built in 1933 and burned down in a thunderstorm in 1939;
- a transmitter mast for medium-wave broadcasting, which served to broadcast Radio Bremen's programs until 1950;
- a smaller telecommunications tower made of reinforced concrete.

Radio Bremen's radio stations are also broadcast for the city of Bremerhaven from the Schiffdorf telecommunications tower near Bremerhaven. The supply takes place via ball reception .
Digital radio ( DAB / DAB + )
Digital radio in the DAB + standard has been broadcast by the Bremen telecommunications tower since August 1, 2011 in horizontal polarization in the single frequency network with other transmitters. In addition to the nationwide multiplex, the program offer from Radio Bremen was added on February 1, 2013 and the private offer from regional muxes on June 27, 2018.
All DMB projects in Germany have been discontinued. Likewise, the DVB-H standard, which is optimized for mobile devices, has not yet caught on. It is therefore unlikely that there will be DVB-H broadcasts from this tower.
Digital television ( DVB-T / DVB-T2 )
The DVB-T2 control operation launched on March 29, 2017. The DVB-T2 broadcasts in HEVC place in simulcast (Single Frequency Network) with other sites. The public broadcasters can be received free of charge, the private broadcasters are largely encrypted and broadcast via the DVB-T2 platform freenet TV .

particularities
The television tower has been a breeding ground for a pair of peregrine falcons for years. The photo in the info box has captured a falcon (to the left of the tower, above the top platform).
