It was put into operation in 1976. It is currently the tallest structure in the city of Siegen . It is mainly used for directional radio and mobile communications and is one of the currently 25 locations in Germany from where mobile internet is distributed for civil aircraft. BOS radio

Up until the late 2010s, operational analog radio relays of the authorities and organizations with security tasks were kept on the telecommunications tower . The police, as well as the fire brigade, rescue service and disaster control each had a radio channel with which the radio communication to the control center and the vehicles with each other in the area of the former district of Siegen was usually possible. However, despite the exposed location of the tower, there were individual dead spots in Freudenberg and in Burbacher Hickengrund . In the end, the technology only served as a fall-back level for digital radio .
