The telecommunications tower Vogtsburg-Totenkopf on the Totenkopf is a 151.3 meter high telecommunications tower made of reinforced concrete by Deutsche Funkturm GmbH, which can be seen from afar .
designation
The official name of the facility is radio transmission center Vogtsburg 1 . In the official language of the German Federal Post Office, the locations were assigned to the local network on whose territory the telecommunications tower was located. This existing historical name was taken over by the German radio tower.
The television stations run under the name Sender Freiburg , earlier the name Sender Kaiserstuhl was occasionally used. Deviating from this, Südwestrundfunk calls its VHF transmitter Vogtsburg in order to distinguish it from its other VHF transmitter location in Freiburg-Lehen .
history
Today's transmission tower was built in 1987 to replace the steel lattice mast that was erected in 1961.
As part of the DVB-T conversion, the GRP cylinder was replaced on June 18, 2007 . The new cylinder is 4.7 meters shorter. This reduced the overall height from 156 meters to 151.3 meters. The concrete shaft has a total height of 134.7 meters.

- Due to the shutdown of the two transmitters Hochrhein and Brandenkopf, there is no longer any single-frequency operation with these transmitters.
- A change of channels 56 and 58 is planned.
Previous use as a television station
Digital television (DVB-T)
Of 10 July 2007 to 8 November 2017, the stations ran DVB-T in simulcast (Single Frequency Network) with other transmitter sites, then with DVB-T2 HD . When switching to DVB-T2 HD, however, the two channels Hochrhein and Brandenkopf were switched off without replacement and removed from the single-frequency network (recommissioning is currently not planned and terrestrial reception of German television programs is no longer possible in the affected regions).
