Localization of Bavaria in Germany

The Pfaffenberg transmitter is a Bavarian broadcasting facility for VHF and digital television ( DVB-T ) on the Pfaffenberg (district Oberbessenbach ). In 1953 a 50 meter high freestanding steel lattice tower was built as an antenna carrier , which was replaced in 1968 by a 181 meter high guyed tubular steel mast .

To introduce DVB-T at the Pfaffenberg location, Bayerischer Rundfunk built a new, 176.05 meter high tower between 2007 and 2008. In the course of the preparation, the steel lattice tower from 1953 was dismantled. The new system consists of a concrete base about 110 meters high, a steel tube about 47 meters high on top and an approximately 17 meter high GRP cylinder to accommodate the DVB-T antennas at the top. The radio programs are then also broadcast from this tower. In 1998, the BR built a similar antenna carrier to the one erected here at the Hohe Linie site near Regensburg. The tubular steel mast was blown up on April 16, 2010.

However, it was previously possible to receive Bavarian DVB-T from the Kreuzberg location at some locations in the Pfaffenberg's coverage area , also in horizontal polarization. It is also very possible to receive DVB-T from the Hessian Rhine-Main area, from there also with the private broadcasting groups RTL and ProSieben-Sat.1, as well as a mixed private bouquet that also contains Tele 5 . Around Aschaffenburg an indoor or outdoor antenna is sometimes sufficient. A roof antenna aligned vertically at the Großer Feldberg im Taunus location is the best solution.

Analog television (PAL)

Until the switch to DVB-T, the transmitter location was still used for analog television:

The programs ZDF and Bayerisches Fernsehen were also broadcast in analog form from the broadcaster Breitsol in Spessart.

Since November 25, 2008, analog television has been out of service at this location and on the Geiersberg.
