The Einödriegel is a 1120.6 m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the Bavarian Forest southwest of the Lower Bavarian district town of Regen (city) and northeast of the district town of Deggendorf . It is the highest elevation in the Upper Bavarian Forest and the Deggendorf district and lies in the Grafling municipality .
Neighboring mountains are the Geißkopf , the Dreitannenriegel and the Breitenauriegel , all of which are located in the same ridge near Bischofsmais . On the Einödriegel with a beautiful view to the west and northeast there is a stately summit cross with resting benches. In winter, a ski lift leads up from the Unterbreitenau, which is part of the Geißkopf ski area. The summit can be reached on foot via a signposted hiking trail.
The summit cross is not erected on the highest point of the mountain. This is located almost 100 meters south of the cross directly next to the hiking trail on a small group of rocks, which, however, is surrounded by trees and offers no view.
Since older geographical and lexical works in particular already include the mountains of the rear forest (Arber, Rachel, Lusen and others) as part of the Bohemian Forest , the Einödriegel is the highest mountain in the Bavarian Forest according to this definition. In 1982 the Brockhaus wrote in the article Bavarian Forest : "In a geographical sense, the Bavarian Forest is that part of the Bohemian Forest that rises as the Vorderer Wald between the Danube and the Regen (in the Einödriegel 1121 m)".
