Ginderich pilgrimage church

With today's parish church of St. Mary of the Assumption , Ginderich was the oldest place of pilgrimage in the Lower Rhine until the ban imposed by the Great Elector in 1640 . In December 2005, Auxiliary Bishop Heinrich Janssen took Ginderich back into the circle of pilgrimage sites in the diocese of Münster.

The church was built between 1280 and 1330 in the transition period from the Romanesque (tower) to the Gothic (main and side aisles). The size of this church is explained by the above mentioned pilgrimage to the Virgin Mary, which was documented between 1056 and 1075, at the latest 1190.
