Lackhausen is a district of the Hanseatic city of Wesel on the Lower Rhine . It is located on the northeastern outskirts and has 3,105 inhabitants (as of 2019).

geography

Lackhausen is located a few kilometers northeast of Wesel city center and belongs to the Obrighoven-Lackhausen district , which was an independent municipality until 1969. The center of Lackhausen is directly connected to the Hanseviertel, which is part of the Feldmark , and is a popular residential area near the city. Towards the east, however, the district is very rural and comprises an area around the Issel river that is only populated by farms . The A 3 forms the border in the northeast Hamminkelner district Brünen , but the closest connection point is located to the southeast. An important traffic connection is the Emmericher Straße, which delimits Lackhausen in the west from the Feldmark and leads to the federal highway 8 . The federal highway 70 runs south of the village and the dairy road east of the settlement area runs in the direction of Dingden . Lackhausen borders Obrighoven in the south and Blumenkamp in the northwest . In Blumenkamp there is a stop on the railway line towards Bocholt and in Feldmark not far from Lackhausen there is a small train station on the Koblenz - Emmerich line .

History and Development

In the Middle Ages, Lackhausen was a peasantry in the parish of Wesel. After the Reformation around 1540, it was mostly inhabited by Calvinists and a Catholic minority, but had no church for any of the denominations. In the early 17th century, the Bärenschleuse was built near Lackhausen an der Issel , which was supposed to ensure the water supply for the fortress in Wesel.

In 1824 Lackhausen merged with the neighboring Obrighoven to form the municipality of Obrighoven-Lackhausen, which was co-administered by Wesel until 1848 and only then became independent. In 1832 Lackhausen had 409 inhabitants and was therefore slightly smaller than Obrighoven. At that time, Konrad Duden (1829–1911), a Lackhausen resident, was born on Gut Bossigt , who later became well known. Going back to a retail business from 1809, the company Tacke Lacke was founded in Lackhausen in 1867 for the production of paints and varnishes. The Lackfabrik Lackhausen was not named after the place name, which dates back to the Middle Ages, but the same name was used in the company's external presentation. Ida Noddack (née Tacke; 1896–1978) emerged from the entrepreneurial family . She was an eminent chemist and was involved in the discovery of the elements technetium and rhenium . The company has survived to this day as a specialized company.

In the post-war period and especially at the beginning of the 21st century, Lackhausen got more urban structures. In addition to the construction of a shopping center in 2006, the place expanded through several new development areas. This development was favored by the existence of the shopping center.

Buildings

Sports

In the early 21st century, PSV Wesel-Lackhausen developed into the strongest football club in Wesel. In 2006 he moved into a new facility on Molkereiweg, because the old sports field on Julius-Leber-Straße became the location of a shopping center. From 2013 to 2014 PSV was represented in the Oberliga Niederrhein.
