Werrich / Perrich is a district of the Hanseatic city of Wesel on the Lower Rhine . It is located on the left bank of the Rhine , belongs to the Büderich district and has 540 inhabitants (as of 2019). The district consists of the places Werrich and Perrich and is surrounded by several nature reserves .

The district of Werrich / Perrich is located on the left bank of the Rhine and as the crow flies around five kilometers west of the city center of Wesel on the right bank of the Rhine. Werrich and Perrich are each about one kilometer north of the village of Ginderich and are only a few hundred meters apart. The places are located directly behind the Rhine dike and are surrounded by two nature reserves, in the east by the Rheinaue between Büderich and Perrich and in the west by the Bislicher Insel . The city limits of Wesel to Xanten run in the Bislicher Insel area.

The traffic connection for motorized traffic is only given by side streets, especially from Ginderich. Via Ginderich there are connections to Wesel and Xanten and connections to the federal highways 57 and 58 . There is a connection to the bus network in nearby Ginderich.

history

Historically, Werrich and Perrich were considered farmers . In the area of ​​today's Werrich, the battle of Xanten, which was the decisive battle of the Batavian uprising , may have taken place. Both farmers had a strong agricultural character. In Werrich, Rhine fishing was also operated from the late Middle Ages in order to sell the products on the Wesel market. A small shipyard existed in Perrich from 1885 until around the end of the Second World War . The agricultural character of the two places has basically been preserved.
