Schepersfeld is a district of the Hanseatic city of Wesel on the Lower Rhine . It is located directly northeast of the city center and has 4,966 inhabitants (as of 2019).
geography
The district of Schepersfeld is located one kilometer northeast of the Wesel city center, from which it is separated on its western border by the railway systems near the Wesel train station . Other neighboring districts are Fusternberg in the south, Obrighoven in the east and Feldmark in the north. In addition to the railway facilities, Schepersfeld is bounded by federal highway 58 in the south and federal highway 70 in the east. The area is thus framed by urban districts, while the B 58 leads east to the outskirts. There is also a connection to the A3 . Two main axes of Schepersfeld are Schepersweg and the northern part of Friedenstraße , which runs parallel to the railway systems.
history
In its history, Schepersfeld was never independent, but always belonged to the city of Wesel. Because Wesel was a fortress town in Prussian times, the expansion of the city was very limited and permanent development in the area of the later district was not permitted. Nevertheless, the name Schepersfeld was mentioned at the beginning of the 19th century. At that time, the area was characterized by rural areas and urban development was only possible through a contract for the demolition of the city from 1890. From 1900 to 1902 the Reitzenstein barracks was built , which was later classified as an architectural monument. In addition, the Blücherviertel was created, which initially was primarily a working-class area for larger Wesel companies such as B. Keramag was. Since the Wesel city center was badly damaged in 1945 and Schepersfeld was in better condition, the military and city administration settled there temporarily. From 1953 the Reitzenstein barracks were temporarily used for refugees from the GDR. Since 1996 the barracks have been converted into a place of residence especially for the elderly. With St. Francis , a Catholic church has existed in the district since 1959.
The district today
Schepersfeld has a particularly large number of social facilities for children, young people, senior citizens and people with disabilities. There are various service companies and local suppliers, but no more industrial companies. The local elementary school is the Quadenwegschule, which was inaugurated as a primary school in 1952. Schepersfeld has a district project and a shooting club founded in 1922.
