  • The federal road 58 (abbreviation: B 58 ) leads from the Dutch border near Venlo via Geldern , Wesel , Haltern am See , Lüdinghausen , Ahlen and Beckum to Langenberg .

    history

    origin

The western part of today's Bundesstraße 58 was built from 1811 to 1813 as a Napoleonic military road ( Route Impériale No. 3 ), which was supposed to lead in a straight line from Paris via Maastricht , Venlo, Wesel and Münster to Hamburg , but was not completed. The French name Route Impériale No. 3 was no longer used after the wars of liberation and the takeover by Prussia . The eastern part of today's federal highway 58 between Haltern and Lüdinghausen was only expanded into a paved country road in the post-war period.

    Previous routes and names

With the original numbering in 1932, the then long-distance road 58 (FVS 58) only ran from the Dutch border near Venlo to Haltern am See, where it merged into the later Reichsstraße 51 (R 51). It was not until the 1960s that Bundesstraße 58 was extended from Haltern via Lüdinghausen to Beckum. As a result of the rededication of a state road, the B 58 has ended in 2015 in the area of the municipality of Langenberg (Benteler district) immediately north of Lippstadt , where it becomes the federal road 55.

    Replacements

In 1976 the bypass road around the village of Schermbeck was inaugurated.

B 58n: Between 2005 and 2009, a new Rhine bridge was built parallel to the old Rhine bridge near Wesel, which should be able to cope with future traffic. At the same time, a bypass around the Wesel district of Büderich is being built on the left bank of the Rhine and the so-called southern bypass through the district of Fusternberg on the right bank of the Rhine . The total costs are estimated at 143.4 million euros. Construction work on the new Rhine bridge was completed at the end of 2009. In 2010, 40,000 t of incinerator ash were installed in the street substructure along the road through the “Gindericher Feld” drinking water protection area . These first had to be expanded again from September 2011.

The Büderich bypass was officially opened to traffic in March 2014. The construction of the B58 south bypass Wesel began in July 2019. The construction work is expected to be completed in 2025 Template: future / in 5 years.

Construction of the Beckum bypass began in December 2015. Complete completion should take place by mid-2021.
