coat of arms

In red a slanted golden wave bar, each accompanied by a golden rosette.

The district coat of arms is a combination of the coats of arms of the former Beckum and Warendorf districts. The colors red and gold indicate the colors of the Principality of Münster, to which the area of both districts belonged until 1803. The wave bar from the Beckum district coat of arms indicates the abundance of water in the Beckum hill country and its main watercourse, the Werse . The sun gears (rosettes) of the old Warendorfer district coat of arms are taken from the family coat of arms of the Vogt von Warendorpe family.

Awarded May 20, 1976.

Partnerships

The Warendorf district maintains a partnership with the Müritz district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

Infrastructure / traffic

traffic

The district is accessed in the southern area of the district by the federal highway 2 with the Beckum and Oelde exits. The federal motorway 1 runs past the western flank of the district . Here, however, there is no separate descent in the area of the Warendorf district (Ahlen and Drensteinfurt), but only in the neighboring Coesfeld district. Furthermore, the district is opened up by numerous federal and state roads (B 51, B 58, B 61, B 64, B 475, B 476).

Two railway lines with long-distance or regional traffic and a branch line open up the district area for passenger traffic:

The routes Neubeckum – Ennigerloh and Münster – Neubeckum – Beckum – Lippstadt – Warstein are only served by the Westfälische Landes-Eisenbahn in freight traffic.

Bus connections are mainly offered by Regionalverkehr Münsterland (RVM), which runs on important lines every hour. In the outlying communities, this can sometimes also be done by bus companies in the neighboring districts. Some lines have been converted to a call service with minibuses ( "Taxibus" ).

Drinking water

North of the Ems through the many sandy soils, more nitrates get into the groundwater than south of the Ems with more clayey soils, which are less permeable to water. This is why the limit values in drinking water are exceeded, especially north of the Ems.

Until the 1990s, vehicles from the old Beckum district received license plates with the letter pairs PA to ZZ and the numbers from 1 to 999.

Since April 22, 2014, the distinctive symbol BE (Beckum) has also been available.
