Everswinkel ( Low German Iärswinkel ) is a municipality in the Warendorf district .
geography
Community structure
The rural community Everswinkel consists of the districts Everswinkel and Alverskirchen .
Peasant communities
- Schuter, derivation of the name: Formerly a farm in the former Löckendorp farming community. Only mentioned at the end of the 14th century (A.) "Schuvotinch to Luckinctorpe". The base of the name is “schuvut” translated “eagle owl”. The following two derivations are possible: The name originated from the personal name "Schuvot" which was formed in the function of belonging (to a person). The name arose from a field name, the final syllable of which indicates the presence of eagle owls as a job designation. If a person's name is accepted, it is to be traced back to the animal designation and to be seen as a reflection of the particular physical or character traits of the first bearer of the name. Thus, the meaning of the name Schuter is: "that belongs to Schuvot" (to a person) or "place with eagle owls" (field name). ( 51 ° 53 ′ N , 7 ° 50 ′ E )
- Wester ( 51 ° 56 ′ N , 7 ° 49 ′ E )
- Versmar ( 51 ° 56 ' N , 7 ° 49' O )
- Müssingen ( 51 ° 56 ′ N , 7 ° 53 ′ E )
- Mehringen ( 51 ° 55 ′ N , 7 ° 53 ′ E )
- Wieningen ( 51 ° 55 ′ N , 7 ° 50 ′ E )
- Erter ( 51 ° 56 ' N , 7 ° 51' O )
Neighboring communities
Everswinkel borders (clockwise, starting in the north) on Telgte , Warendorf and Sendenhorst , as well as on Münster .
history
In the Warendorf district, founded in the Prussian province of Westphalia in 1816 , Everswinkel initially formed its own mayor's office and from 1843 its own office . The Everswinkel office was abolished in 1934 and since then Everswinkel has been an office-free municipality in the Warendorf district.
Derivation of the name "Everswinkel"
A clear name derivation is not possible. The following explanation is obvious from the point of view of linguistic research: With the prefix Evers-, either the animal designation “ever” today Eber or a personal name based on it comes into question. The second part of the word -angle describes a corridor that can be remote and elevated or enclosed. A wording in a document from 1294 "uppen den Everswinkele" indicates a difference in altitude. Thus the word would designate a remote, elevated place where boar existed or which has become known through an incident with a boar. Or the naming comes from a secluded, elevated place where a person named Ever lived or belonged to that person. Interpretation: "Eberwinkel" (derived from the animal) or "Winkel der Ever" (derived from a personal name).
Incorporations
On January 1, 1975 Alverskirchen was incorporated.

Coat of arms, banner and flag
The municipality of Everswinkel was granted the right to carry a coat of arms, a flag, a banner and an official seal with a certificate from the Minister of the Interior for the State of North Rhine-Westphalia dated March 15, 1962.
coat of arms
Blazon : "In the divided shield above in red the front view of a silver (white) church with a black-covered tower, below in silver (white) a right-facing black boar under a black rafter."
The top of the coat of arms shows the tower front of the St. Magnus parish church. The black angle is based on the coat of arms of the Lords of the Mountains, the first detectable residents of the House of Borg. It is a "talking coat of arms": Everswinkel was founded in an angular protruding corridor of the old farmers, the name of which is again alluded to by the boar depicted.
Banner and flag
Description of the banner: "The banner shows the coat of arms of the municipality on a white strip accompanied by two red side stripes in a ratio of 1: 3: 1 pushed up over the middle."
Description of the flag: "In the divided field above, the flag shows in red the front view of a white church with a black-covered tower, below in white a right-facing black boar under a black rafter."
Town twinning
According to the mayor, no town twinning is planned so far, with reference to the many partnerships between individual clubs and associations.
Culture and sights
Since 2004 the hands-on museum Up'n Hoff has housed the local association's collection of agricultural machines and equipment from centuries past. It also explains the production of food, especially bread, in earlier times. The Kulturkreis Everswinkel e. V. organizes a cultural program on behalf of the municipality.
Buildings
Churches in Everswinkel and Alverskirchen
- Catholic parish church St. Magnus in Everswinkel
- Only the Romanesque tower remains of the original church building from the first half of the 13th century. The lower part is made of Laerer limestone, the trunk of the wall of the square tower consists of local rubble stones. The top of the tower, made of brick and now plastered, and the squat pyramid helmet as well as the west portal date from the 19th century. The tower, which is completely undivided in the lower and middle area, has only loopholes-like openings; the current windows in the basement have also broken out of such loopholes. The foundation stone of the Gothic nave was laid on February 28, 1489. Construction was completed in 1522. Its short length is unusual for a Gothic church. Because the tower was to remain in the west and houses were already standing on the east side, the church in Everswinkel was simply built wide.
- Evangelical Johanneskirche in Everswinkel
- In order to remedy the general housing shortage after the Second World War, the first new building area in Everswinkel was built on the Horst in 1949. The Protestant parish, which mostly consisted of expellees, received its own church here in 1952. When designing the interior of the church, the new parishioners adopted design elements from their homeland. In 2001 a new organ was inaugurated in the Evangelical St. John's Church, so that organ concerts can now also be held here.
- St. Agatha Church in Alverskirchen
- The church already existed at the time of the first Prince-Bishop of Munster, i.e. before 1203. It is consecrated to St. Agatha, the protector of fire. The first patron saint of the church is St. John in 1613. However, it seems that after three devastating fire disasters that struck the village, St. Agatha seems to have gained increasing veneration until she finally took the place of a patrona primaria . Today's church tower dates from the time the church was founded. The massive, Romanesque style building owes its fortified character to the fact that the entrance door is very small and there are only a few windows. However, it did not get its current width until 1703.
Attractions
- Wayside shrines and crosses
- Roads, country lanes and the approach to farms bear testimony to the Christian faith of the population. Wayside shrines or crosses near the village still serve as blessing altars in the annual processions.
- Bishop's House
- The house where Johann Bernhard Brinkmann was born , known as the “Bishop's House” because of its size, is on the west side of the parish church of St. Magnus. A plaque on the house reminds of the earlier use.
- Brinkmann monument
- On the occasion of his 100th birthday in 1913, a memorial to the so-called Confessing Bishop Johann Bernhard Brinkmann (1813–1889) was erected on the south side of St. Magnus Church . As indomitable and energetic as he can be seen on his stone monument, he must have been during his lifetime.
- Fountain on Magnusplatz
- The community owes its name at least in part to the boar. At the fountain of Magnusplatz z. B. a whole wild boar family has gathered - created by the late sculptor Günter Rossow.
- Home house
- The listed former weaver's house on the east side of the church square was bought by the municipality to use it as a home. When the typical arable bourgeois house was built in 1781 by Johann Bernd Vienenkötter and his wife Anna Maria Moyman, the village population consisted for the most part of so-called arable citizens who pursued a trade or handicraft and also ran agriculture to ensure their families' food.
- Historical square
- The development plan of the town center of Everswinkel is unusual, perhaps even unique: the streets form an irregular square, now known as the historical square . This arrangement of the streets resulted from the location of the church and the houses on the church square to two old highways.
- Lady Chapel
- In 1885, while the confessing bishop Johann Bernhard Brinkmann, who was born in Everswinkel, was still alive , the congregation had a neo-Gothic brick chapel built for their largest son instead of a small, old chapel. Since 1922 it has served as a war memorial chapel to remind the fallen of the wars of 1870/71, 1914/18 and 1939/45.
- town hall
- The town hall was inaugurated in 1988 as the keystone in the ensemble of the new business and service center on Magnusplatz . It is the first in Everswinkel's communal history to be built specifically for this purpose.
- Weaver monument
- The triangular, 1.80 meter high sandstone sculpture by the sculptor Stefan Lutterbeck from Everswinkel was completed in time for the inauguration of the newly designed historical square in 1993. Three typical scenes from home weaving remind us of the heyday of this craft, which was the main source of income for the Everswinkel village population in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Mansions
- Gut Brückhausen : 2.5 kilometers south of Alverskirchen is probably the most influential mansion in the area for centuries: Gut Brückhausen. For a long time the owners of Brückhausen were politically influential personalities, as the main employer in the region around Alverskirchen they played an important role.
- From the former manor house Langen in Everswinkel, the former Bauhaus and the graves still exist. The Lords of Langen "with the diamonds" resided at the knight's seat until 1614 .
- The Lütke ceilingbrock farm (with a newer building stock) is reminiscent of the former knight's seat in Bettenbrock , ancestral estate of the noble family of the same name, which later called itself Droste zu Hülshoff
Sports
Many citizens are organized in the sports clubs. The largest sports club in Everswinkel is the SC DJK Everswinkel, a merger of the former clubs SC Everswinkel and DJK Everswinkel. The women's handball team of the SC DJK has been playing in the Oberliga (fourth highest division) since 2008. The sports club DJK RW Alverskirchen is represented in the Alverskirchen district. In addition to some riding stables, the Alverskirchen-Everswinkel riding and driving club provides a wide range of equestrian sports.

Digital
The inner-city areas of Everswinkel and the Alverskirchen district have been completely expanded with fiber-optic infrastructure by Deutsche Glasfaser Holding GmbH. In addition, the farmers (outside areas) will be supplied with fiber optic connections in the next few years. This means that in the future every house or building in the Everswinkel community can be connected to the fiber optic network (FTTH, Fiber To The Home).
Freifunk: In some areas of Everswinkel and Alverskirchen an open WLAN network without a password is available via Freifunk . For example, the church squares in the two districts and parts of Vitusstrasse in Everswinkel are covered. In addition, two sports halls, the Kelhbachhalle and the Vitus Sports Center, are supplied with Freifunk.
education
Everswinkel currently has two primary schools, including one in Alverskirchen, as well as a network school (secondary school and secondary school under one roof). There is also a free Waldorf school .
traffic
The bus lines S 20 (not on Sundays) and R 22 / R 23 (every two hours on Sundays) run to Münster and Warendorf. Short connections to the A 1 (20 min; AS Ladbergen), A 2 (30 min; AS Beckum) and A 43 (20 min; AS Münster-Süd). The B 64 affects the municipality of Everswinkel. Pedestrians and cyclists are of particular importance in urban traffic. The city planners have set up traffic-calmed and car-free zones and paths and largely dispensed with the controversial cycle paths that are subject to mandatory use . During certain events, the local government closes the entire center. Everswinkel also forms honeycombs in the Münsterland cycle park . Many cycle paths lead to the bicycle city of Münster . Europaradwanderweg R1 and 100-Schlösser-Route touch Everswinkel.
Together with the nearby Raestrup, Everswinkel owned the "Raestrup-Everswinkel" stop on the route from Münster to Bielefeld until 2017. Regional trains of the Eurobahn stopped here every hour, which were connected in Bielefeld via Herford to Rahden and thus established a direct connection between Münster - Raestrup-Everswinkel - Bielefeld - Rahden.
In 2017 the "train station" was shut down because of its isolated location without any noteworthy residential developments and replaced by the newly built "Warendorf-Eine-Müssingen" stop in the neighboring town of Warendorf. This is much more frequented as the villages of Eine and Müssingen are close by.
