Oberhof (Mark)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Oberhof was understood to be the capital of a medieval market cooperative .

The regular meetings of the lay judges , the so-called “Märkerding” or “Wahlding”, of all connected locations were held here. At these meetings was committed crimes court held, and representatives - protective or upper governors - and the Mark Master selected. The Markgenossenschaft often used the name of their upper court as a name designation, as in the Biebermark . Because of its central or easily accessible location, a place became the Oberhof of a Mark . It could well be that the smaller towns of Oberhof were part of a brand cooperative, although more important towns also belonged to them. The smaller Oberhof thereby gained in economic importance.
