The Münster University of Applied Sciences, with its headquarters in Münster in Westphalia and another department in Steinfurt, is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Germany with around 15,000 students in twelve departments and a central scientific institution (Münster Center for Interdisciplinarity) . The administration is located in the Hüfferstiftung building .

history

The Münster University of Applied Sciences was founded on August 1, 1971 as one of 15 universities of applied sciences in North Rhine-Westphalia, when eight predecessor institutions and the newly founded departments of economics and social affairs were merged into a new university. At that time the number of students was around 2,300. It was thus one of the smaller universities of applied sciences in the Federal Republic of Germany. The university of applied sciences was spread over several buildings within the city of Münster and also used the building of the former engineering school for civil engineering in the city center (Lotharinger Straße). A few years later (1974) the University of Applied Sciences was built on Corrensstrasse with the departments of architecture (today on the Leonardo Campus), civil engineering and business administration. Today the "FHZ" (University of Applied Sciences) houses the departments of civil engineering, economics and ecotrophology · facility management.

Institute for Society and Digital

At the Institute for Society and Digital (GUD) at the Münster University of Applied Sciences, scientists from the departments of social affairs, design and computer science jointly pursue the goal of putting information technology and media design at the service of reflecting on and solving current social issues and problems. The interdisciplinary team does not primarily start from the already existing information technology phenomenon of digitization and its effects, but rather from the pressing social challenges of our time themselves. The extent to which the digital can make a contribution to overcoming them is examined.

Institute for Energy and Process Technology

At the Institute for Energy and Process Technology (IEP) of the Münster University of Applied Sciences, research is carried out in the areas of electricity and heat supply, energy conversion, energy storage, efficient energy use and energetic utilization of material flows. The interdisciplinary team consists of researchers from the fields of mechanical engineering, energy · buildings · environment as well as electrical engineering and computer science.

Institute for Sustainable Nutrition - iSuN

Institute for Sustainable Food Production and Nutrition (iSuN) - Institute for Sustainable Nutrition - is a scientific institute at the Münster University of Applied Sciences, which deals with the sustainability transformation of the food system in transdisciplinary projects. The main research areas are “Sustainable Management” and “Economy for the Common Good”, “Reduction of Food Waste”, “Regional Food”, “Sensory Technology, Enjoyment and Taste” and “Product Development and Appreciation”.

Research at iSuN is dedicated to the development of concepts, products and services for sustainable nutrition and cooperates closely with those involved in the field of nutrition. The iSuN bundles the competencies of nutritionists, microbiologists, economists, engineers, logisticians and business administrators from the Münster University of Applied Sciences and thus creates synergies for innovative concepts that are implemented together with partners from practice.

Institute for Process Management and Digital Transformation

The Institute for Process Management and Digital Transformation (IPD) in Münster is a teaching and research facility in the Economics Department of the Münster University of Applied Sciences. It was created in 2012 as part of a restructuring from the Institute for Logistics and Facility Management (ILF) and concentrates the competencies of the logistics area of the ILF, the Oecotrophology department, the Organization and Logistics department and the Coesfeld Competence Center - Institute for Business Process Management eV

The institute emphasizes the interdisciplinary nature of the research area in its approach. This includes the areas of logistics, process and project management, business informatics, international management and operations research. It sees itself as a partner of the regional medium-sized economy. A large number of partnerships with companies, associations and universities form the basis for the practical orientation of the IPD. In regular practical forums organized by the IPD, for example, teachers, students and company representatives exchange ideas on current topics in the logistics sector.

Institute for Water · Resources · Environment
