Teaching and Research

The Evangelical University RWL is oriented in teaching and research on issues and tasks of the social and health system, diakonia and church educational work. The dialogue between theology and social sciences, ethical reflection and personal development are of great importance. Protestant and intercultural, inclusive and family-friendly, the Evangelical University advocates equitable education. Prospective students from families with no academic tradition and those with a migration background are particularly welcome.

The bachelor courses “ Social Work ”, “ Community Education and Diakonia ”, “ Elementary Education ” (basic and part-time), “ Nursing Science ” and “ Curative Education / Inclusive Education ” are offered. Since the 2013 winter semester, the EvH RWL has been offering a BA course in “ Health and Nursing Management ”. This course qualifies for managerial tasks in services and institutions in the fields of health and care. Furthermore, the master’s courses “ Social Inclusion: Health and Education ” and “Management in Social Economy and Diaconal Organizations” are part of the range of courses.

Research and transfer are related to problems in social and church practice. With a strong regional network, the Evangelical University is also actively represented in national university associations. At the same time, it cooperates with numerous foreign universities and offers its students numerous opportunities to gain experience abroad. With its network partner, the Catholic University of North Rhine-Westphalia (KatHO NRW), the EvH RWL is one of the winners of the "Innovative University" tender. Together they started the "Transfer Network Social Innovation - s_inn" in 2018, which has set itself the task of facing social challenges. This includes shaping the aging society, integrating people with disabilities or a history of refugees, or ensuring that society does not drift apart.

International

The EvH RWL sees international and intercultural exchange as an important part of the course and teaching. The EvH RWL currently maintains 26 partnerships with universities and practical institutions in 16 countries, including 21 partnerships in Eastern and Western Europe and five in non-European countries. A university fund was set up in 2008 to promote stays abroad, from which 30 to 50 students benefit every year. "Discovering the World in Bochum: Social Work and Health Professions in the Context of Culture and Diversity" - in cooperation with the Bochum University of Health (hsg Bochum), the EvH RWL has been offering an English-language teaching program since 2017, for students from both universities and international ones Is open to students.
