The University of Finance (HSF) is a university of applied sciences for public administration in Nordkirchen . The state of North Rhine-Westphalia trains the next generation of senior staff within the state's financial administration at the university of applied sciences . The financial candidates are housed during their studies in Nordkirchen Castle and in neighboring, additionally constructed new buildings. Successfully completed studies entitle you to the academic degree of Diplom-Finanzwirt (FH) .

The University

Headquarters

The university has been housed in the castle and its farm buildings since 1950. The larger rooms of the facility were converted into lecture halls for up to 30 students, while the smaller rooms on the upper floors are used as living and study rooms. Until the end of the 1960s, the term Finanzakademie des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen was also in use for the university of applied sciences . After a considerably increased demand for graduates was foreseeable in the 1970s, a new building was built in the park to the north of the palace. The complex, known as Sundern , functionally combines lecture halls and living and study rooms.

Branch offices

Since 2015, accommodation and lecture halls have been rented for a transitional period at the Klausenhof Academy in Hamminkeln - Dingden . Since a long-term cooperation with the Klausenhof Academy was agreed in September 2017, the theoretical part of the training for around 100 junior employees in career group 2.1 in financial administration has been carried out at this location.

In September 2017 was on a former military base in Herford of Campus Herford opened another branch of the university. 160 students and 15 lecturers have started teaching there. After the renovation of further barracks buildings and the temporary construction of residential containers, a further 240 students were added in September 2018.

Name change

Until December 2019, the University of Finance was called the University of Finance (FHF), which was changed by the University of Applied Sciences Act for Public Service on December 14, 2019.

Course of study

The state of North Rhine-Westphalia trains junior tax officials in a three-year course . The dual course consists of a 21-month course at the Nordkirchen University of Applied Sciences and also internships in the various departments of the tax offices . The study period is divided into a basic and a main course. The basic course is divided into five and the main course into two sections. After the second of the five basic study sections, the students take an intermediate examination.

Focuses and examination areas

The main focus of the course is on German tax law with the tax code and its variety of tax types . In the final exam, five five-hour exams from the areas of accounting tax law, sales tax law, tax law, income tax law and corporate tax law are required. Furthermore, the students write a scientific paper on a tax or social science topic.

Further learning content

In addition to exam-relevant tax law, students get an insight into other areas of law, such as civil law , securities law and commercial law . In addition, the most important economic and business basics are taught.

Perspectives

After the final examination and acceptance into the civil service on probation, the graduate finance economists (FH) are employed as clerks in tax assessment, tax auditors or in tax investigations . The graduated finance economists (FH) who have retired from civil servant status are also employed in the private sector and, for example, in tax consulting companies or in the tax departments of large companies.

Training institutions of the financial administration of North Rhine-Westphalia

The central advanced training events of the NRW financial administration are offered at two locations. At the advanced training academy for financial administration (FortAFin) in Bad Honnef and the University of Finance in Nordkirchen.

On October 1, 2018, the FortAFin location was relocated from Bonn-Bad Godesberg to nearby Bad Honnef. The previous location in Bonn-Bad Godesberg is now intended to serve the training of young professionals.
