The International School of Management GmbH (ISM) is a private university with state recognition. The carrier is the ISM International School of Management GmbH ( Dortmund ).

history

After the university was founded in 1990 as the IDB Business Academy by Klaus Evard , it was renamed the International School of Management (ISM) in 1992 . In 1994 it was recognized as a private university of applied sciences . The company shares were taken over in 1998 by the quality community Euro Schools Organization .

In 2000, Winfried Schlaffke ( Institute of the German Economy ) was appointed President of the ISM. 2003 was carried out accreditation of the MBA -Programms by the FIBAA and 2004, the institutional accreditation of the ISM by the Science Council . In June 2016 the Science Council approved the accreditation of the ISM for a further ten years. In 2006, in accordance with the Bologna Agreement , the ISM switched the diploma courses to bachelor and master courses .

Since 2007 there has been a second campus in Frankfurt am Main and since 2009 a third campus in Munich . In 2010 another location was opened in Hamburg . Since the 2014/2015 winter semester, prospective students can also study at the fifth ISM site, on the campus in Cologne . In January 2016, ISM took over the Stuttgart location from the EBC University. In 2019, ISM took over the Berlin location from the EBC University. ISM Dortmund is the main shareholder of IT-Center Dortmund . The university has its headquarters in the Dortmund Technology Park .

In 2010 Bert Rürup became President of ISM and joined the Board of Trustees in 2013. His successor was the previous Vice President Ingo Böckenholt . The managing directors are Silvia Semidei (also managing director of the parent organization ESO) and Ingo Böckenholt. Since 2014, ISM has been running a joint research institute with Kienbaum Consultants International under the name "Kienbaum Institute @ ISM for Leadership & Transformation". Five further institutes were founded with the Research Institute for Supply Chain, Clusters and Mobility (SCM @ ISM) in 2015, the Institute for Real Estate & Location Research (RELR @ ISM) in 2016, the Brand & Retail Management Institute @ ISM, the Entrepreneurship Institute @ ISM and the Institute for Business Evolution & Innovation @ ISM.

The course also includes learning two foreign languages, which prepares students for working in an international environment. The B.Sc. International Management can be completed entirely in English. A semester abroad is also integrated into every Bachelor's program at ISM. The semester abroad is spent at a partner university from the ISM network, which includes around 180 universities. If you want to spend a second semester abroad, you can opt for the Global Track degree programs. In the seventh semester, the students go to a university in the USA, Australia or China.

Those who opt for one of the master’s degree programs spend the first two semesters at an ISM campus. The ISMers study at one of the 180 partner universities in the third semester. Individual courses of study can be studied entirely in English.

In addition, a practical phase of up to 12 weeks is a compulsory part of the course. There are also consulting projects and project work for companies.

The General Management MBA program is aimed at university graduates with professional experience. Participants take four international modules in the USA, Brussels, India and Hong Kong. The acquisition of leadership skills is one of the central goals.

The dual study program at ISM includes practical lectures, an integrated semester abroad and language courses in English. To do this, students apply their knowledge directly in the partner company - alternating three months per semester. These practical phases are completed either as a long-term internship over the entire duration of the study or as part of an IHK training.
