The Fachhochschule der Wirtschaft (FHDW) is a state-recognized private university of applied sciences in North Rhine-Westphalia established in the 1990s with headquarters in Paderborn and further campuses in Bergisch Gladbach , Bielefeld and Mettmann as well as in Marburg ( Hesse ). The same school authority also operates the University of Applied Sciences for Business in Lower Saxony with its headquarters in Hanover .
history
The University of Applied Sciences in Paderborn started its work in 1993. In 1996 an additional location was opened in Bergisch Gladbach . In 2001 the location in Bielefeld started operations. Studies began in Dresden in 2005, but it was discontinued in October 2011. The newest location was opened on September 28, 2009 with the first lecture in Mettmann .
The sponsoring company of the university is the Fachhochschule der Wirtschaft Nordrhein-Westfalen gGmbH , whose sole shareholder is the Paderborn Association of Education Center for Information Processing Professions , which also operates the FHDW Hanover. The non-profit center was founded by Heinz Nixdorf in 1972 and has been developing vocational training concepts in collaboration with companies ever since.
Education
The FHDW offers dual and part-time bachelor's and master's degrees in the fields of business administration and applied IT.
dual study
The dual bachelor's degree at the FHDW is characterized by a quarterly change between the university and partner companies. The regular alternation of university and practical phases is intended to enable the real-time application of what has been learned in operational practice.
Part-time studies
The organization of the courses for the part-time Bachelor and Master courses is geared towards the needs of full-time employees. The degrees are possible in business administration , business informatics and business law .

Since January 2020, the FHDW, in cooperation with the Edinburgh Business School , has been offering part-time doctoral studies for Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) .
Duration of study
The students acquire their Bachelor's degree after three years in the dual study programs or after four years in the part-time study programs. For the part-time master’s courses, applicants obtain their degree after 18 months in the MBA course or 32 months in the master’s courses.
fees
For a bachelor's degree at the FHDW, monthly tuition fees of 640 to 850 euros are incurred. There is also an examination fee of 1,500 or 2,400 euros.
