The Beelen parish was founded in 920. Bishop Nidhard (900–922) consecrated the first Beelen church. This was donated by the bishop Bruning, the administrator of the Schultenhof on the Axtbach. The oldest document in Beelen church history about the foundation of the Beelen church by Bishop Siegfried dates from 1022.

In a document from Pope Eugene III dated May 23, 1146, “a farm in Beelen and a chapel with all its legal names” is named as the property of the Clarholz monastery . The ministerial family von Beelen appeared for the first time in 1269 with the squire Heinrich (Gut Grevinghof ). Beelen came to the Sassenberg office of the Principality of Münster in 1294 . A mail car connection from Münster via Warendorf, Beelen and Rheda to Paderborn and back was established in 1679. Beelen came to the newly created Grand Duchy of Berg in 1808 . Church of St. John

In 1967/68 the church of St. Johannes Baptist was rebuilt according to a plan by the architect Christa Kleffner-Dirxen (Münster). A transversely oval church space was created on a polygonal floor plan. The sanctuary leans towards the north and is slightly raised. The church is made of brick and has a flat roof. The church tower is separate from the church building like a campanile. It is consecrated to St. John the Baptist. In 1969 the old church was demolished. The church square was converted into a memorial for those who died in the world wars of the 20th century; the foundations of the old church from 1854 are still there.

On January 1, 1975, Beelen became the legal successor to the Beelen office, which was dissolved on December 31, 1974 as a result of the local reorganization and to which the communities of Beelen, Ostenfelde and Westkirchen belonged. The latter came to Ennigerloh .

On May 28, 1995, Beelen celebrated its 1075th anniversary.

Incorporations

As part of the North Rhine-Westphalian regional reform , the municipalities of Ostenfelde and Westkirchen were removed from the Beelen office on January 1, 1975 with the "Law on the reorganization of the communities and districts of the Münster / Hamm reorganization area ( Münster / Hamm Act )" of July 9, 1974 detached and incorporated into the city of Ennigerloh . The municipality of Beelen remained as the legal successor to the office.
