The Axtbach , a brook in the Münsterland , is a 34.1 km long orographically left tributary of the Ems . It rises on the Mackenberg in the Beckum Mountains , flows through Oelde , the Oelder farming community Menninghausen, the Herzebrock-Clarholz district of Möhler and then flows south past Clarholz to Beelen , where the Beilbach flows into it west of the municipality . The Axtbach itself flows into the Ems in Vohren, east of Warendorf .

The Axtbach has been renatured in the area of the grounds of the 2001 State Horticultural Show in Oelde and Vohren. It now partially flows back in its original bed through wet meadows and forms floodplain lakes. The straightening and canalization in Beelen and Vohren took place in 1964.

The Axtbach's fish population includes carp , tench , pike , eel , bream and roach . In the meantime there are also freshwater mussels again.
