St. John Baptist Church

The Church of St. Johannes Baptist in Beelen is dedicated to John the Baptist . Structurally, the church and parish belong to the Warendorf deanery in the Münster diocese .

history

The first documented church in Beelen is the Marienkirche, which Bishop Nidhard consecrated in 920. Beelen is first documented as a parish in 1188.

In the years 1856/1857 the third Beelen church was built in brick in neo-Gothic style and was one of the first neo-Gothic church buildings in the diocese of Münster.

The current church building is the fourth Beelen church. It was built in 1967/1968 because the previous building was in poor structural condition and it was to be expected that it would no longer be able to offer enough space to the growing parish. The new church was built from the typical red brick. In addition to the red color scheme, the church interior also impresses with its unusually open, transversely oval design.
