The Neubeckum – Warendorf railway was a standard gauge line operated by the Westphalian State Railway (WLE). Today only the remainder of the Neubeckum – Ennigerloh section is used by freight.

history

As an extension of the existing Warstein – Neubeckum line, the WLE opened a line from Neubeckum , then still called Beckum-Enniger, to Freckenhorst on July 22, 1899 , which was extended to Warendorf on April 1, 1901 . A railway committee in Beckum had suggested the construction and campaigned for the Westphalian provincial parliament to take over half of the share capital for the construction.

On June 3, 1956, all traffic on the Westkirchen – Warendorf section and passenger traffic between Ennigerloh and Westkirchen was discontinued, the line from Westkirchen to Warendorf was dismantled.

On September 27, 1970, passenger traffic also came to an end between Ennigerloh and Neubeckum.

On May 31, 1973, freight traffic between Westkirchen and Ennigerloh was stopped and the tracks were then dismantled. The disused route is now partially used as a cycle path .

passenger traffic

In Warendorf and Neubeckum, the platforms were next to the state train stations, so that direct transfers were possible. In 1938 there were six pairs of trains, in 1954 there were seven pairs of trains. Most trains ran continuously via Neubeckum out to Münster. Up to 1966 there were still three to five pairs of trains running, from 1967 one pair of trains, which was no longer published in the timetable.

Freight transport

The main customers in freight transport were and are the cement works in Ennigerloh, they purchase limestone and send ready-made cement. The limestones are brought from Warstein in block trains from WLE's own wagons; in 2008 that could be six to eight trains a day. The handover to the state railway was possible in Warendorf and Neubeckum, but Warendorf did not play a major role. The transport services are heavily dependent on the respective construction industry. In good years, however, over a million tons were transported.
