The Ahlen (Westphalia) Station - short Ahlen (Westphalia) - is located in the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Ahlen . It is located on the electrified, four-track main line Hamm – Minden , which leads from the Ruhr area to Hanover . In the 19th century, it belonged to the Cologne-Minden Railway Company and is now operated by Deutsche Bahn AG .

history

Ahlen station was put into operation on October 15, 1847 as part of the construction of the Cologne-Minden Railway. The first station building from 1848 was demolished during the First World War , because at that time the track at ground level was laid on a railway embankment. The new reception building, which is still in use today, was opened in 1916. From 1891, the stopping point of the Vorhelm district was located about six kilometers in the direction of Bielefeld . However, the site of the town incorporated in 1975 was closed in 1988 for reasons of rationalization and dismantled in 1994. Since summer 2019, however, a reactivation of the train station in Vorhelm has been under discussion at the initiative of local politicians.

Today's meaning
