Railway stations in North Rhine-Westphalia |
The main station Neuss is a Inselbahnhof , which at the intersection of the left niederrheinischen route (Cologne Kleve) and the railroad track Mönchengladbach-Dusseldorf is located. On the one hand, the Düren – Neuss railway branches off the two lines, and the Neuss – Viersen railway of the private regional railway , which has ended in Kaarst since 1984, on the other .
Together with the bus and train lines from various transport companies that stop at the eight individual stops in the forecourt, the main train station is Neuss’s local transport hub.
Neuss main station houses some shops, for example a restaurant, a bakery and a press. In 2006 it was modernized, whereby u. a. two of the four platforms have been equipped with lifts for wheelchair users. As part of a second renovation from mid-2012, the remaining platforms were also equipped with elevators.
history
Neuss Central Station was put into operation in 1853 when the railway line from Aachen opened. A railway connection to Cologne followed in 1855.
In 1875/76 the second station building was built according to plans by the architect Johannes Richter in the new construction department of the Rheinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft in Cologne. The current station building with the bike station opened in 2003 is located in the same place.
With connection to the S-Bahn traffic in 1985 (S 11) and 1988 (S 8), the station was last extensively rebuilt.

planning
According to plans, the new U 81 tram line of the Düsseldorf Stadtbahn will run from the Hammelfelddamm industrial area or possibly from the Rheinpark Center S-Bahn station via the main station and on via Lörick, the Düsseldorf exhibition center and the airport to Ratingen . Due to a lack of financial resources, the project is currently on hold.
modification
Neuss main station is one of the six stations in Germany that have been included in the station development program of Deutsche Bahn AG. The planning office Jaspert, Steffens, Watrin and Drehsen from Cologne was commissioned to develop a concept. The concept was developed in close cooperation with the city of Neuss and is currently being checked for feasibility. The main focus here is on the station forecourt, the reception building , the transport facilities of the station itself and its surroundings.
The concept consists of eight modules, each of which can be implemented independently of one another. The so-called Master Plan NRW also provides for the expansion of the rail infrastructure. On December 11, 2008, the plan was signed by the railways, federal government and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The modernization plan is subsidized with € 767,000. In the second step of the measure, the modernization offensive 2, the Neuss main station was rebuilt from the 2nd half of 2012. Among other things, all platforms were given an elevator, the flooring was renewed and auxiliary systems for the visually impaired were installed.
