The Wuppertal-Sonnborn stop is a stop on the Düsseldorf – Elberfeld line in Wuppertal .
history
The stop in Sonnborn was not one of the original stops of the Düsseldorf-Elberfelder Bahngesellschaft (Düsseldorf - Steinbeck) and was only created in 1878. The station was initially opened at the level of the Kirchhofstrasse bridge and was initially the only connection between the mayor's office of Sonnborn , which was still independent at the time , to the rail network. With the four-track expansion of the valley line (1910-1914), the stop was moved to the bridge on the Garterlaie . From then on he also owned a reception building and was given the name Elberfeld-Sonnborn due to the incorporation of Sonnborn into Elberfeld . National trains only stopped regularly in Sonnborn until the end of the 1930s. Similar to the construction of the Zoologischer Garten and Unterbarmen train stations , there were central platforms between the two pairs of tracks, each with access via a platform bridge.
With the opening of S-Bahn line 8 at the end of the 1980s, both the long-distance platform and the station building were demolished.
Todays use
After the establishment of the S-Bahn line S 8 of the S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr on May 29, 1988, the stop no longer has a long-distance platform and it is only used as a S-Bahn stop. In addition to the S 8 from Mönchengladbach Hbf to Hagen Hbf , the S 9 to Bottrop Hbf has also stopped here since December 2003 (with an extension to Haltern am See ). The former long-distance platform itself has been completely dismantled, but the long-distance train tracks are still in the same position, so that the distance between the tracks in the area of the stop is significantly greater than usual. Shortly before or after the stop, the railway line crosses the Sonnborn Cross and the Sonnborn Railway Bridge .
Transfer possibility
There is a direct connection to the bus line 629. The Sonnborner Straße suspension railway station is also within walking distance.
