Railway stations in North Rhine-Westphalia |
The breakpoint Völklinger Straße Dusseldorf is located approximately 3.5 kilometers southwest of the Düsseldorf main station in the district Unterbilk at the railway Moenchengladbach-Dusseldorf and is used by the Deutsche Bahn to the station category classified fifth
It was opened on May 29, 1988 with the start of operations on the S 8 line of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn . It is a stop with two tracks, which can be reached via a central platform . This central platform is 96 centimeters high and thus corresponds to the boarding height of the S-Bahn vehicles on lines S11 and S28; vehicles with an boarding height of 76 centimeters have been used for line S8 since December 2014. However, there is no barrier-free access to the platform, which is why wheelchair users cannot reach the S-Bahn without outside help. The facility is in an elevated position above Völklinger Strasse, here part of Bundesstrasse 1 , and Volmerswerther Strasse. In February 2016, the Rhein-Ruhr transport association announced that the stop should be renovated by 2023 at the latest. Retrofitting of elevators and modernization of the platform equipment are planned. In addition, the platform is to be lowered by 20 cm, as the VRR aims to create a uniform boarding height of 76 cm at all S-Bahn stations in the network area in the long term.
Traffic importance
Today the stop is served by the S-Bahn lines S 8 ( Mönchengladbach Hbf - Hagen Hbf ), S 11 ( Bergisch Gladbach - Düsseldorf Airport Terminal ) and S 28 ( Mettmann Stadtwald - Kaarster See ) every 20 minutes during the day . The S-Bahn lines S 8 and S 11 are operated by the DB Regio NRW , the S 28 line by the Regiobahn .
The stop is also a connection point with the Düsseldorf bus and tram network operated by Rheinbahn . The tram line 709 stops here every 10 minutes, during rush hour every 5 minutes, the bus line 723 and bus line 726 every 30 minutes. The VRR tariff as well as the NRW tariff for cross-network journeys apply to all lines .
