Route to Aachen

Swell:

The railway Moenchengladbach-Dusseldorf is now 24 km long (at least) double-track and continuous with catenary provided Railway - mainline of the left Lower Rhine in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

The Aachen-Neuss-Düsseldorfer Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft was founded to build a railway line from Aachen via Mönchengladbach and Neuss to Düsseldorf.

Since the Prussian military was fundamentally opposed to fixed bridges over the Rhine, the line from Gladbach to Düsseldorf-Oberkassel was built and approved on December 16, 1852. Passenger traffic began a month later on January 17, 1853.

After completion of the stretch to Aachen on October 16, 1854, goods traffic on the entire route began. At the same time, the Rhine station was opened in Oberkassel .

On the other side of the Rhine, there was then a connection in the former Rheinknie station of the Düsseldorf-Elberfeld Railway Company to its railway line to Elberfeld .

Todays situation

As part of the establishment of the S 8 S-Bahn line , part of the route was expanded. The S-Bahn line runs on two tracks between Düsseldorf Hbf and Neuss Hbf, next to the long-distance railway, which is also two-track.

Offer

Today the route is operated by the Regional Express lines Wupper Express (RE 4), Rhein-Weser Express (RE 6, between Neuss and Düsseldorf), Maas-Wupper Express (RE 13) and Niers Express (RE 10 , Düsseldorf Hbf to the Erftkanal junction), the regional train Düssel-Erft-Bahn (RB 39, between Neuss and Düsseldorf) and the S-Bahn lines S 8 (on the entire route), S 11 and S 28 (both between Neuss and Düsseldorf).

Planning

It is planned to set up a stop in Neuss Stadtwald between Neuss main train station and Büttgen station.
