The Düsseldorf-Hamm stop is about five kilometers southwest of Düsseldorf Central Station in the Düsseldorf district of Hamm . It is located on the Mönchengladbach – Düsseldorf railway line and belongs to station category 5. In addition to the S-Bahn, Düsseldorf-Hamm stops for a tram and bus line.
Location and structure
The stop is located on the border between the Düsseldorf districts of Hamm and Hafen on the Mönchengladbach - Düsseldorf railway line . The line has four tracks in the section between Neuss Hbf and Düsseldorf Hbf . The northern pair of tracks is used for long-distance and freight traffic . The southern pair of tracks, where the stop is located, is used exclusively for the Rhein-Ruhr S-Bahn trains . The stop has a central platform 150 meters long and 96 centimeters high on the embankment, which can be reached via an entrance from Kuhstraße.
The neighboring operating points are the Düsseldorf Völklinger Strasse stop in an easterly direction, around 1.4 kilometers away, and the Neuss Rheinpark-Center stop in a westerly direction, 1.7 kilometers away. Immediately to the west of the stop is the Hammer Bridge over the Rhine . To the north of the two lines are the sidings of the Düsseldorf port.
history
The stop is on the section of the Mönchengladbach - Düsseldorf railway line that was opened in 1870. Despite the proximity to the center of Hamm, there was no access point for passenger traffic for a long time. The district was connected to the local public transport network in 1924 by a tram line .
On March 18, 1978, the Deutsche Bundesbahn and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia signed implementation contract No. 3, which provided for the expansion of the Mönchengladbach - Neuss - Düsseldorf - Wuppertal - Hagen connection for S-Bahn operations. The section west from Neuss was to have its own pair of tracks for this purpose and to be supplemented by additional local transport stops in the urban areas of Neuss and Düsseldorf.
In order to get the required space for the second pair of tracks and the platform, the existing dam crest was removed and the overburden used for the dam widening. The overpass over the Kuhstraße gave way to a new building, in which the access to the new stop was integrated at the same time. Since the station was only expected to be less frequented, the superstructures were comparatively spartan. The opening took place together with the commissioning of the East-West S-Bahn on May 29, 1988.
traffic
The station is currently served by three lines of the S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr , a tram and a bus line. The S-Bahn lines run every 20 minutes, so that nine trains run between Düsseldorf and Neuss central stations per hour and direction. In addition, the S-Bahn lines have direct connections to Mönchengladbach, Wuppertal, Hagen, Dortmund , Cologne , Bergisch Gladbach , Kaarst and Mettmann .
