Westerbauer is a district and a district of the independent city ​​of Hagen in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany. With around 13,000 inhabitants, Westerbauer forms the core area of ​​the Hagen city district " Haspe -West".

The community was by decree of Napoleon Bonaparte on 18 November 1808 of the municipality Enneperstraße which the five farming communities hasp , Voerde , porch , West builders and Waldbauer included, as well as a number of smaller farmsteads and villages. Iron forges and scythe factories were characteristic of the municipality of Enneperstraße at this time .

This region played an important economic role in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries and is to be regarded as one of the centers of industrialization in Germany. The Harkort family of industrialists is based in Westerbauer. The Hasper Hütte steelworks was built between Westerbauer and Wehringhausen in 1847 and the Brandt rusk factory was founded here in 1912 .

After the departure of the municipality of Voerde, the office consisted only of the municipality of Westerbauer, which was merged with the town of Haspe on April 1, 1898.
