The university district is a district of the independent city of Hagen in the eastern Ruhr area . It belongs to the district of Hagen-Mitte. In 2018 the university district had 12,401 inhabitants.

The university district comprises the two residential districts of Eppenhausen and Fleyerviertel. It is named after the FernUniversität Hagen and the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences , which are located in its field. In addition, the Hagen Knowledge Park and the district court building with the penal institution and the district and labor court are located in the district. However, the public buildings on the outskirts of the district do not shape it. Rather, it appears as a predominantly residential area, in which, in addition to the residential developments, which are largely designed as single-family houses, there are only very few retail outlets and restaurants for local supply. In the northern half there is a car feeder to Kreuz Hagen ( A 45 and A 46 ), which cuts through the Fleyerviertel. South of the feeder as well as on the north and south edges there are also denser buildings.
