Delstern is the name of a district of the independent city Hagen in the eastern Ruhr area .

history

Archaeological finds prove a settlement by hunters and arable farmers in the Delstern district as early as the Paleolithic around 7,000 years ago.

In Delstern on the “Kuhweide” archaeological excavations uncovered the remains of a medieval craftsmen's settlement. In addition to shards from the 9th to 13th centuries, evidence of the production of knife blades was discovered .

Delstern was first mentioned in a document in 1296, when the knight Dietrich von Volmarstein transferred a farm in Delsterhusen and the fishing rights in the Volme to the Friedag brothers .

In 1486 there were already 19 farms in the Delsterner Burschop (= Delsterner farmers). Trade and craft had developed, Hans Delsterhusen was already active in Bruges in Flanders in 1427 .

Ore mining began at the end of the 16th century. Tonnis von Lahr (Anton von Laer in Herbeck) built a shaft under the Red Siepen below the Struckenberg in 1596 - today around the intersection of Volmeabstieg and Volmestraße for the extraction of iron ore .

In 1692 Mathias Vorster from Mülheim-Broich built the first paper mill. A second paper mill is mentioned as early as 1741, which was also built here.

In 1745 Harkort and Rupe operated a rod iron hammer (later the Kürschner spring factory), and Höfinghoff (1718–1795) and Schmidt founded a scythe factory in Lücköge in 1809. The Refflinghaus brothers built a raw steel hammer in the Oege in 1816 (later Schoeneweiss & Co.).

The Delstern gymnastics club, founded in 1883, celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2008.

On April 1, 1901, Delstern was incorporated together with Eckesey and Eppenhausen .
