Old memory

Garenfeld is a district of the city of Hagen in the eastern Ruhr area .

history

Archaeological finds indicate that there were first permanent settlements in the Garenfeld area as early as the Neolithic Age , including a settlement of linear ceramics (around 4600-5000 BC).

After Charlemagne had conquered the Saxon Wallburg Sigiburg (Syburg) in 775 , Garenfeld belonged to the imperial court that was founded immediately afterwards, which was later called Westhofen (original name: Vesthofede = fortified court or courtyards).

Garenfeld was mentioned for the first time as Garnefelde in the second third of the 12th century in a list of goods from the Werden Abbey.

From 1735 Garenfeld was a municipality in Niederamt Schwerte , which from 1753 belonged to the district of Hamm . From 1843 it was part of the Westhofen office in the Schwerte district until it was added to the Iserlohn district in 1929 . On January 1, 1975 Garenfeld was incorporated into the city of Hagen as part of the municipal reorganization.
