The MVG Märkische Verkehrsgesellschaft GmbH (MVG) is a local transport company of the Märkisches Kreis and its municipalities. The Märkische Verkehrsgesellschaft plans (planning order by district council resolution) and operates regular bus services and is a member of the Verkehrsgemeinschaft Ruhr-Lippe (VRL) .
history
The company was founded after the municipal regional reform in 1975 in September 1975 with effect from January 1, 1976. However, predecessor companies of the Märkische Verkehrsgesellschaft are documented until 1886. The first company was the " Kreis Altenaer Eisenbahn " (KAE). Later there were mergers between the "Kreis Altenaer Eisenbahn", the " Westfälische Kleinbahn " (later " Iserlohner Kreisbahn AG") (IKB), the " Plettenberger Kleinbahn AG" (PKG) and the " Kraftverkehr Mark-Sauerland GmbH" (MS ).
Companies
MVG's shareholders are essentially the Märkische Kreis and its 15 cities and municipalities . MVG today has a total of 417 employees, 131 of whom were employed by the sister company MBG ( Märkische Bus-Gesellschaft mbH ) until the end of 2009 , which was merged with MVG by means of a merger agreement of August 26, 2009. Another 401 people are employed by almost 40 contractors . Of the total of 425 vehicles used, 172 are MVG-owned vehicles.
Today the company covers a traffic area of around 1,150 square kilometers with 460,209 inhabitants. The line network with around 149 main lines - plus lines that primarily serve school traffic - has a length of around 2,700 km and around 2,200 stops . After the withdrawal from the town of Schwerte in 2005, the traffic area is largely congruent with the Märkisches Kreis. Cross-border traffic exists to Hagen , as well as to the Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis , Oberbergischer Kreis , Olpe , Hochsauerlandkreis and Unna districts . The transport performance is approx. 15.2 million kilometers per year with approx. 32.9 million transport cases (as of 2012). Plans, in addition to the regular services and operates the MVG on behalf of the district and the cities / towns the Schülerspezialverkehr to special schools to approximately 125 lines. These trips are mainly carried out by contractors using minibuses.
MVG has a 99.77% stake in the subsidiary Märkische Eisenbahngesellschaft mbH (MEG), the rest of the stake belongs to the city of Plettenberg .
Between May 30, 1999 and December 11, 2004, the Dortmund-Märkische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (DME) operated the Volmetalbahn (RB 52) Dortmund - Hagen as a subsidiary of the Dortmunder Stadtwerke (74% stake) and MVG (26% stake) - Ludenscheid .
On January 10, 2005 the traffic in the town of Schwerte was handed over to the Verkehrsgesellschaft Kreis Unna (VKU). The reason lies in the spin-off of the city of Schwerte from the dissolved Iserlohn district in 1975, when the Iserlohn district railway was the concession holder for public transport. This license was handed over to the VKU.
As a cooperation partner, MVG is involved in the development of the mobile timetable information system moFahr .
Since August 2010, the electronic timetable information has been supplied with real-time information from the MVG, so that real-time timetable information is made available to passengers on the Internet. In addition to the real-time data from Deutsche Bahn and NE-Bahnen and some transport companies of the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr , MVG is currently (as of 3/2011) the only non-VRR transport company that is connected to the so-called actual data server of the VRR.
In December 2011, MVG published an iPhone - app for timetable information. A corresponding Android app has also been available since August 2012 .
On February 16, 2013 it was announced that the MVG are planning a new depot for 11.5 million euros. This had become necessary because the old depot on Rahmedestrasse (in the Lüdenscheid district of Wehberg ) was getting on in years. The plant was inaugurated under its predecessor, Mark Sauerland, in 1956. However, it has not yet been politically decided. In the coming month, the company's supervisory board and, for the first time, the district committee and the district council will deal with the project. In the old functional building, the roof is already leaking, the hall doors can no longer be opened and closed without any problems, the energy costs are far too high and the processes in the workshop are no longer running smoothly. The implementation of the new building project should take place in 2014, if possible, with ongoing operations. The company wants to raise the sum for the new construction of the depot as far as possible from its own resources - 500,000 euros should come from further savings per year.
In addition, the administrative building has been extensively renovated since the end of October 2013. According to the management, a renovation with around 300,000 euros is much cheaper than a completely new building. In the course of the renovation, the windows were completely renewed and adequately insulated. In the medium term, the renovation should also reduce MVG's energy costs. The new Lüdenscheid depot was opened in October 2017. The new, environmentally friendly second-generation Mercedes-Benz Citaro has been driving through the Märkischer Kreis since 2012 .
