Wehberg is the name of a district and belongs to the statistical district 14 (Wehberg) of the district town of Lüdenscheid in the western Sauerland , North Rhine-Westphalia . The district and the statistical district are located in the northwest of the contiguous urban area. Since 2010, the extensive residential area in the “Grebbecke” district and the “Schafsbrücke” district have also been included in the statistical district 14 (Wehberg).

history

In the Middle Ages, Wehberg was one of ten farmers in the parish of Lüdenscheid, which later became the municipality of Lüdenscheid-Land . They are said to have existed since at least the 13th century. For a long time there was a water-powered flour mill here . At the end of the 19th century, the still-used Catholic cemetery in Lüdenscheid was laid out. According to the “Law on the Border Regulations between the City and the Rural Community of Lüdenscheid” of April 16, 1935, the Wehberg was separated from the Lüdenscheid-Land community and incorporated into the city. With the strong population growth in the 1950s and 1960s, an extensive, uniformly designed new building area with single and multi-family houses was created here.

Until a few decades ago there was even a freight station on the Wehberg, which was important for Lüdenscheid. From April 11, 1904 , the district of Altenaer Eisenbahn (KAE) also used the one-kilometer route between Schafsbrücke Weiche and what was then the Wehberg freight station to connect with the state railway in Lüdenscheid . There, both goods from the wagons circle were Altenaer Railways (KAE) to the car of the Deutsche Bahn (DB) loaded and goods from the car of the Deutsche Bahn (DB) on the car of the county Altenaer Railways (KAE). Today, the area of the former Wehberg freight yard is largely characterized by single-family houses.

Infrastructure

General infrastructure

As a replacement for an older the short term, for in 1979 Christuskirchengemeinde of Lüdenscheid belonging Markuskirche inaugurated. On Wehberg there is a Catholic and Protestant kindergarten, the Wehberg elementary school and the Adolf Reichwein comprehensive school .

The large-scale residential development has largely been preserved to this day. Despite the dense development, there are some green areas and playgrounds for children in the district. The YMCA children's and youth leisure center "Audrey's" in the street "Im Olpendahl 52" also offers a variety of events.

On the “Schmittenstück” path, there is also the largest and now oldest allotment garden in Lüdenscheid with 71 gardens - that of the Wehberg allotment gardening association. The association was founded in 1946; the facility now covers around 33,000 m².

In the streets “Am Drostenstück”, “An der Steinert” and “Am Wendelpfad” there is an extensive industrial and commercial area. Many of the resident companies and vocational training institutions have existed there for several decades. Another smaller industrial area is located on the upper part of the “Im Olpendahl” street. A branch of TÜV Nord , which was previously located on Vogelberg , and a new car wash were also built on Grebbecker Weg .

The long view telecommunications tower , which can be seen from afar, is located on the upper Wehberg .

Bus depot and administration of the Märkische Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG)

The administration and the Lüdenscheider bus depot of the Märkische Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG) are also located in the Wehberg district.

On February 16, 2013 it was announced that the MVG are planning a new depot for 11.5 million euros. This had become necessary because the old depot on Rahmedestrasse was getting on in years. The plant was inaugurated under its predecessor, Mark Sauerland, in 1956. However, it has not yet been politically decided. In the coming month, the company's supervisory board and, for the first time, the district committee and the district council will deal with the project. In the old functional building, the roof is already leaking, the hall doors can no longer be opened and closed without any problems, the energy costs are far too high and the processes in the workshop are no longer running smoothly. The implementation of the new building project should take place in 2014, if possible, with ongoing operations. The company wants to raise the sum for the new construction of the depot as far as possible from its own resources - 500,000 euros should come from further savings per year.

In addition, the administrative building of the MVG has been extensively renovated since the end of October 2013. According to the management, a renovation with around 300,000 euros was much cheaper than a completely new building. In the course of the renovation, the windows were completely renewed and adequately insulated. In the medium term, the renovation should also rapidly reduce MVG's energy costs. The renovation work was completed by spring 2014.

Renovation of residential buildings by Lüdenscheider Wohnstätten AG

In 2013 the residential buildings in the street "Am Wiesenhang 6-10" were extensively renovated by Lüdenscheider Wohnstätten AG (LüWo). The apartments were redesigned during the renovation. In addition, the apartments now have balconies and the attic, which otherwise only served as a drying room, has also been converted into apartments. Lüwo invested more than one million euros in the renovation of houses 6 to 10.

An old house on the neighboring Dammstrasse was demolished. In order to reduce the parking pressure in the street, six garages were built on this site and an additional 14 parking spaces were created.

By the beginning of 2015, the remaining houses belonging to Lüdenscheider Wohnstätten AG (LüWo) were also comprehensively renovated in this area. LüWo has a total of around 2,150 residential units in Lüdenscheid.

Conversion of a company premises into a residential complex in the street "An der Steinert"

There have been discussions since 2011 about converting an empty industrial site on "An der Steinert" street into a residential complex. The affected property is approximately 7,900 square meters. At the beginning of 2015 another report appeared in the Lüdenscheider Nachrichten that there is still interest in converting the property into a residential complex. No specific investor has yet been found for this.

Worth seeing

The different houses in the Wehberg district and the extensive footpaths in the district are ideal for walks.

There are some newly designed playgrounds for children in the district.

Transport links

Rail transport

The nearest connection point by train is the nearby train station Lüdenscheid and alternatively in Lüdenscheider district Bruges of Bruges (Westphalia) Station . The Lüdenscheid train station is a 15-20 minute walk away, while the Bruges (Westphalia) train station can be easily reached by car or bus in a few minutes. The Bruges – Lüdenscheid railway itself runs through the nearby Grünewald district .

In addition, due to the large number of residents in the surrounding districts, it was considered to set up a stop at the Lüdenscheider district building. However, due to the problematic topographical location, this would be associated with very high costs. That is why they concentrated on relocating the Lüdenscheid train station and did not pursue the project any further for the time being.

Bus transport

The connection from Wehberg to the local public transport (ÖPNV) takes place mostly through the bus lines S1 (one express bus line to the city center of Lüdenscheid and to Iserlohn ), 254 (one school bus line ), 42 and 44 (two city bus lines ) of the Märkische Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG) .

Important bus stops in the district are: "Autohaus Jürgens", "Am Weiten Blick", "Wehberg Wendestelle", "Wehberg", "Dammstrasse", "Schafsbrücke", "MVG-Verwaltung", "Breitenfeld", "Hochstein", " Hasenkamp ”,“ Ballet School Klüttermann ”,“ An der Steinert ”,“ Buckesfelder Straße ”and“ Kreishaus (I + II) ”.

Road traffic

The connection to the motorway network is via the nearby exit no.13 Lüdenscheid-Nord and exit no.14 Lüdenscheid of the federal motorway 45 . This leads north to Hagen and Dortmund and south to Siegen , Wetzlar , Gießen and Frankfurt am Main . An alternative junction is exit no. 15 Lüdenscheid-Süd of the A 45. The two federal highways B54 and B 229 are also near the Wehberg and can be easily reached within a few minutes by car. Many parking spaces within the Wehberg ensure that drivers have enough parking space.

By relocating and widening what was then Rahmedestrasse, it was possible to reduce road traffic in the city center and on the Wehberg. In addition, the aim was to make the motorway exits from the surrounding districts more accessible. The old Rahmedestraße ran in the area of today's street "Asenberg".
